Frank Mackey

Native to Cork, Frank Mackey relishes the chance to do the Christmas Panto as it gives him some quality time with friends and family in his hometown. Trained at The Gaiety School of Acting and LAMDA in London, which is Frank’s primary base enabling him to play parts on stage and screen.
His recent work in The New Theatre’s production of ‘Slaughterhouse Swan’ secured him a Best Support Actor nomination, which seems only fitting for someone with such a great body of work. Some of his theatre appearances at the Abbey Theatre include ‘Kaleidoscope’, ‘Richard II’, Oscar Wilde’s ‘An Ideal Husband’,’Sive’, ‘The Silver Tassie’ and ‘The Real McCoy’.
Other theatre work includes ‘Glory be to the Father’ (Red Kettle) and ‘The Spirit of Annie Ross’ (Druid), ‘As You Like It’ (by Jonathan Miller, The Gate), ‘Private Dick’ (Druid),’ Macbeth’ (Tivoli), ‘Butterflies Are Free’ and ‘Conversations on a Homecoming’ (Everyman Palace, Cork), ‘Season of Short Plays’ (Fishamble), ‘ What the Donkey Saw’ (Lane Productions), Bertolt Brecht’s ‘The Jewish Wife’, and ‘The Wizard of Oz’ (Olympia) to name but a few. Cork Opera House productions include nine pantomimes includings ‘Philadelphia Here I Come’, ‘Oklahoma’, ’South Pacific’, ‘Alice in Wonderland’, ‘Aladdin’ and now ‘Sleeping Beauty’.
Film and television appearances include ‘Penny Dreadful’, ‘The Dawning’,’ Rebel Heart’ (BBC Northern Ireland), John Piggot in ‘Fair City’ (RTE), ‘The Clinic’ (Series 3) (Parallel/RTE), the highly-acclaimed drama-documentary television mini-series ‘Stardust’ for Merlin Films and ‘Damage’ (Subotica/RTE), the award winning television series ‘The Tudors’ (Season 2) and as “Joey Hoey” in the six-part comedy series ‘Val Falvy T.D.’ written by Arthur Mathews (Father Ted) and Paul Woodfull (Stew) for Showtime. His most recent television work includes ‘Seachtar Dearmadta’ about the 1916 rising and a short film ‘The River’ for TG4.
